Neil
Cowley Trio: LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL ON THE MOVE
On
Saturday 22 November The Neil Cowley Trio embarked on an epic journey
across London as part of the London Jazz Festival in association with
BBC Radio 3. Starting their journey at midnight with an EBU broadcast
from the Southbank Centre, Neil and the band were ready to take their
legendary energy for a whirl around the big city. Saturday morning 9am
at the Natural History Museum and the task did seem a little daunting,
but they took each performance in their stride. Playing in front of
the dinosaur at the Natural History Museum was a highlight for everybody
and the journey continued at Ronnie Scott's where the British Council
along with delegates from all over the Jazz World and an enthusiastic
audience of special fans were witness to an exclusive secret gig. The
band then jetted off back to the South Bank Centre for Jazz Line-Up
presented by the wonderful Claire Martin. Evan and Richard then took
a moment to reflect and regain their composure while Neil was whisked
off to play as a special guest with the Bays and Heritage Orchestra.
By
the end of the night everybody was eager to see whether or not they
could pull off the final gig. The band arrived exhausted but as soon
as they set foot on stage it was obvious that the audience were in for
a real treat. Follow a standing ovation and a glorious encore.

French
Jazz Legend Erik Truffaz set to stir up London Jazz Festival with new
Indian project
In
January 2007, Malcolm Braff, Marc Erbetta, Christophe Chambet and Erik
Truffaz realised a 3 weeks tour in India. At every concert, they invited
one or two local musicians to share the stage with them. It is in this
context that they met two exceptional musicians from Calcutta, Apurba
Mukherjee (tablas) and Indrani Mukherjee (vocal). Malcolm Braff and
Erik Truffaz then wished to increase their knowledge of the Indian music
and prolonged this meeting. Thanks to Pro Helvetia, the two musicians
stayed 2 months in Calcutta. This allowed them to work on a project
with those two musicians and to live, from the inside, the Indian musical
universe. For the first time Erik Truffaz will be bringing this unique
musical project to the UK as part of the London Jazz festival. For one
night only they will be playing in Camden's famous Jazz Café.
The Erik Truffaz Indian project will be available for UK festivals in
2009. Please contact us for further details.
